Y8 Basketball Match vs GSIS

11 year 8 students travelled to GSIS on Monday 14th for a friendly game in preparation for the ESF tournament to be held later in the month. It was their first experience of a competitive situation as a year 8 team and they applied themselves well. At the end of a fast paced first quarter the score was 6-6, with GSIS moving ahead in the second quarter 11-7 after scoring a few fast break lay-ups. Island school had a fantastic third quarter and brought the score back level to 17-17 and were only 2 points behind going into the final quarter. After pulling level again and the lead changing from GSIS to Island school,

GSIS scored a huge 3point shot with 1 minute to go and followed it up with another basket to finish winners 30-23. It was a great team performance by the year 8’s and scoring 23 points in their first game was excellent. Sanjay, Isaac, Kabir and Lok Ngai all got points on the board and played very well. Well done to the whole team: Mark, Harry, Connor, Adrian, Lok Ngai, Vito, Justin, Kabir, Chirag, Isaac, Sanjay.

B grade team win ISSF U20 Soccer Div 2

The B grade team had a fantastic game against HKIS, emerging 3-1 winners and snatching the league title away from them at the last minute. The boys will receive their gold medals in the last assembly of term. Goal of the season from Luke Carpenter 10N, who scored from a free kick near the half way line.

Year 7 Basketball

R and W were no shows.  This was very disappointing and certainly a shame for the single R student who turned up keen to play!
I played a standard round robin competition to place the teams for the finals.
On Wednesday 23rd at lunch time we will have the finals.
R vs W playing for 5th and 6th
D vs E playing for 3rd and 4th
F vs N playing for 1st and 2nd
If it is wet we will move it to Thursday 24th at lunch time.

C Grade Hockey Match Report IS v KGV

On Thursday 9th we had our first hockey game of the season, against KGV. We worked together as a team, had some great play and never gave up. Our goalie Tasha was under a huge amount of pressure, but she was the glue that held our team together, and she was player of the match. Alana, Milan and the rest of our defenders were also under huge pressure but they worked hard to get the ball out of the D, and were always there to block the opposition. Our forwards, Ada, Scarlett, Emily and the rest, ran like crazy for the ball, and didn't let the other team win without a fight. And our midfield's, especially Susan and Heena, were always there to pressure the defence. Our defenders, forwards and midfield's all did so well and I can't wait for our next game! Although we lost 2-0, I was really proud of the C grade Team:Tasha, Nikita, Hana, Milan, Lauren, Miranda, Megan, Jemma, Heena, Alana, Ada, Scarlett, Emily, Noa
Nicola-Anne Rutkowski - Captain

B grade Soccer

The HKSSF competition has proved strong this season, so it was some trepidation that we faced Ying Wa, the current Div1 overall champions. Illness had taken its toll with Rohit, the goalkeeper, ruled out of the game it fell to Luke to take the gloves. The team have been unlucky this season but they played very well once again. They had more of the action against a side that has 7 current HK players in their line-up. We had some good chances, including a penalty but the game ended goalless.

A very similar line up played a friendly against SJC before CNY, coming out 1-0 winners. Thanks to Mrs Kwok for the pictures.

FLEMING NEWS

Friday 20th January saw our annual Inter House Athletics finals at Wanchai. Fleming students had performed extremely well in the heats as the House was in 3rd place at the start of the day, a fantastic achievement. This, unfortunately wasn’t going to last, mainly due to a large number of Fleming finalists being absent on the day. As each event drew to a close we saw ourselves gradually slip from 3rd to 6th place. This did not dampen our spirits and we cheered on with some great performances, especially in the relays.  Well done to those who gave their all. Perhaps this is a good time to remind ourselves of one of our mottos for this year: ‘We don’t have to win it but, we have to be in it!’
For photographs of Fleming students enjoying the recent sports day please click here

Congratulations to Kinjal Jhaveri 13F who recently had an article on the merits of the IB Diploma programme published in the January edition of ‘IB World’ magazine.

Cecilia Wang 11F achieved the ‘Top in the World’ score in her IGCSE Chinese examination achieving 100%. Well done!

Good luck to Ka-U Lynn 11F who will be playing in the Hong Kong School Golf Championships on Monday 6th February.

Congratulations to Michael Kang 9F on achieving his Gold Merit Award
